Poker Players Know Their Business
February 3, 2010
Interestingly enough, there has been a lot of talk about poker players and
the business world. Many experts are saying that poker players used to be
thought of as not necessarily the smartest group out there, and that they
knew their poker skills if nothing more. But now some experts say that for
all that talk, poker players and the financial and business side of the
world might actually be a very good fit.
There has been an interesting turn for poker players where more and more of
them are moving into those markets, much to the surprise of many people.
They say that they definitely have a mind for business, which can be seen as
they analyze the stock market and how regulating online gambling would be
good or bad for the country.
One interesting note is that Steven Begleiter – one of the November Nine for
the World Series of Poker – was once an employee at Bear Stearns stock firm,
and ended up sixth place in the poker event. He said that he had met many a
poker player who would have done really well in the business field. He says
that had he met many of these same poker players when he was in the business
world that he would have asked them to come work with him.
In fact, a recent study said that hedge fund companies and brokerage houses
were actually looking to the younger set of poker players to be potential
analysts for them. They said that someone who is doing well as a poker
player actually had the potential to be a great risk manager or trader later
on – much more potential than someone who does not have a poker background
strangely enough.
